Spring Youth Clinics
Youth hockey has gone through significant changes since
we offered our first clinic
24 years ago. Off season hockey programs used to provide an opportunity to develop new skills, to develop more confidence with the puck, and to have fun playing hockey. The spring and summer used to be a time when hockey players would play other sports, work on their
conditioning, and skate a few times a week to improve
their skills, try new things on the ice, and renew their passion for the game.
Over the past several years, youth hockey has evolved to a point where the emphasis is on games and tournaments. Young players are designated to roles and the focus is on winning, at the expense of individual development. This model does not allow a young player to develop the skills or confidence necessary to truly enjoy the game. The season has
become too long, summers are consumed with leagues and
tournaments, and young players are losing their passion for the game before they reach high school.
Developing as a hockey player requires a long term commitment to skill development, physical conditioning and rest. We had this in mind when we designed our program 24 years ago. It is our belief that players gain more when practicing over a longer period of time. We are committed to offering programs that extend through a number of weeks. As a result of the constant repetition of task specific drills, while under the watchful eye of our experienced instructors, each player has ample time to absorb concepts and to attain mastery over new skills. Our practices are intense and our students and staff work very hard. Our program has been proven, not only to increase a player’s skill level and speed of play, but also to improve his or her confidence, as we encourage them to carry the puck and develop on ice creativity. Our philosophy is simple: we believe that better skilled players have more fun playing hockey, and therefore, our program targets individual skill development, intensity of play, and creativity.
Our youth clinics are intended for young hockey players, between the ages of 4 and 18. These sessions will be held at the Ingersol Arena in Auburn and the Family Ice Center
in Falmouth. The first session begins on April 17 and each division will skate once per week for ten weeks through the end of June.
